Paid search for buyers who switch languages mid-query

What does a Google Ads consultant for Sweden do?

A Google Ads consultant for Sweden plans and manages campaigns that reach buyers searching in Swedish and English, including compound words and spellings without å, ä and ö. The remote work spans tight keyword and negative keyword lists, location targeting, careful use of Performance Max, consent mode under EU rules and offline conversions from your CRM, with your company owning the account and no promised costs or results.

Last reviewed by Vikas Saroj

A purchasing manager in Västerås may type a Swedish compound word for the service she needs, then an English software category, then the Swedish word again with the letters å, ä and ö left out. A Google Ads account that treats Sweden as one language and one audience pays for the wrong mix of those searches and misses the rest.

As an independent Google Ads consultant working remotely, I design, launch and run search campaigns, decide where Performance Max belongs, set up consent-aware conversion tracking and connect ad clicks to the qualified inquiries and deals recorded in your CRM.

Workshops, documents and reports are in English. Swedish headlines, descriptions and landing page text come from native speakers, whether employees or a Swedish partner you select, so ads read as natural Swedish and keep their meaning within tight character limits.

What I Do

Google Ads work fitted to how Swedish buyers search

Each service treats Swedish and English demand separately and judges campaigns by the inquiries sales accepts, not by clicks.

Account Review

A structured look at your current setup: language and location settings, search terms, wasted spend on irrelevant Swedish phrases, conversion actions, consent signals and landing pages, ending in a ranked fix list.

Bilingual Search Build

Campaigns split by intent and language, with Swedish compound and split forms, spellings without special letters and the English terms buyers use for software, technical services and job titles.

Negative Keyword Lists

Shared lists in Swedish and English that filter out job hunters, students, salary research, free tools and do-it-yourself searches, reviewed against real search terms as the account runs.

Performance Max Decisions

A reasoned view on whether Performance Max suits your offer, with feeds, asset groups and brand exclusions where it does, and a search-only plan where conversion data is too thin.

Tracking and CRM Imports

Conversion actions configured with consent mode, plus imports of qualified lead, opportunity and won stages from your CRM, so bidding learns from outcomes your sales team confirms.

Reporting in Plain Terms

Reports that show spend, qualified inquiries and pipeline by campaign and language, with a short written note on what changed, why it changed and what I plan to adjust next.

Language settings, compound words and Swedish negatives

A common mistake in Swedish accounts is assuming that the campaign language setting matches the language of the query. Google uses signals about the user's languages, and many Swedes run phones and browsers in English while still searching in Swedish. Targeting only Swedish can therefore exclude part of the audience. I usually target both languages in the settings and control language through the keywords and ad text instead.

Swedish compounds need their own handling. A buyer can write one long word, split it into two or use an English loanword, and each version can trigger different auctions. I group these variants deliberately, use phrase and exact match where precision matters, and check broad match carefully before trusting it with a Swedish keyword set.

Negative keywords carry as much weight as positive ones. Typical Swedish exclusions include terms for jobs and vacancies such as jobb and lediga jobb, salary research such as lön, free offers such as gratis, and course or training searches such as kurs and utbildning, alongside their English equivalents. Search terms are reviewed regularly, because new irrelevant phrasing keeps appearing.

Ad copy is written separately for each language. A Swedish ad group gets Swedish headlines that native speakers have checked, and an English ad group gets English copy, never a mix within one ad. The general method is set out on my Google Ads management page.

Targeting Stockholm, the regions and the Öresund area

Location targeting in Sweden involves more than choosing the country. Demand is concentrated around Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö, while large parts of the north are sparsely populated, so a national budget without structure tends to drift toward the biggest cities whether or not that matches your sales coverage.

I set location strategy around where you can actually deliver:

  • Presence, not interest. For most service businesses, ads should reach people physically in your area, not people anywhere who once searched for it. I check this setting first, because the default can widen reach in ways you did not intend.
  • Regional splits. Separate campaigns or bid adjustments for metropolitan areas and regions where your sales team or installers operate.
  • The Öresund region. Businesses in Skåne often compete with Danish suppliers and serve customers on both sides of the bridge. Danish-language campaigns, written by native speakers, belong in their own structure.
  • Swedish speakers in Finland. Where it fits your offer, Swedish-language ads for Finland can be run with Finnish pricing and contact details on the landing page.

For industrial suppliers whose buyers work at headquarters in one city but order for sites across the country, I look at where conversions actually originate before narrowing anything. If you also sell into Norway or Denmark, the Norway and Denmark pages describe what changes in those accounts.

Search, Performance Max and landing pages with prices exclusive of VAT

Performance Max can work well for a Swedish online store with a clean product feed and plenty of purchase data. For a B2B company that receives a modest number of inquiries, it often spends on placements and audiences that are hard to judge, and it can claim credit for brand searches that would have converted anyway. My default for lead-driven businesses is a well-structured search account, with Performance Max added only when conversion data is strong enough and brand terms are excluded.

Landing pages decide whether a click becomes an inquiry. For Swedish buyers I check that each page:

  • Repeats the exact service or product the ad promised, in the same language.
  • States prices or price principles the way the audience expects. Business buyers generally read prices exclusive of moms, while consumer-facing prices are generally expected to include VAT. Your advisor should confirm the presentation rules for your sector.
  • Shows the company name and organisationsnummer, delivery area and a named contact, which Swedish buyers often look for before trusting a supplier.
  • Loads quickly on mobile and asks only for the details sales genuinely needs.

When a page cannot be changed quickly, I would rather narrow the campaigns than send paid clicks to a page that does not match. Landing page work connects to the organic side through my SEO consulting for Sweden, so paid and organic pages do not compete or contradict each other.

Consent mode and conversions that come from the CRM

Under GDPR and Sweden's electronic communications act, advertising and analytics cookies generally require consent, and Google expects consent signals for users in the European Economic Area before some measurement and personalization features apply. In practice, part of your visitors will decline. I configure consent mode with your consent tool so that tags respect each choice, and your data protection lead approves the settings. I am not a lawyer, and decisions about legal basis and consent design stay with your advisor.

Because browser data will be incomplete, I anchor measurement in your CRM:

  1. Each form or call inquiry is stored with the click identifier and campaign details captured at submission.
  2. Sales qualifies the lead in the CRM, and the stage changes to qualified, opportunity and won are recorded with dates.
  3. Those stages are imported back into Google Ads as offline conversions, so bidding favors searches that lead to real opportunities.

For B2B leads I often add the organisationsnummer as a field, which makes it easier to match an inquiry to an existing account and to spot competitors or students filling in forms. Enhanced conversions, which send hashed contact details, can improve matching, but they involve personal data and need approval from your data protection lead first.

How this connects to pipeline stages and sales follow-up is set out on the Sweden CRM page.

Restricted sectors, pacing through the Swedish year and account ownership

Some sectors face extra rules. Alcohol marketing in Sweden is tightly regulated, gambling advertisers need a Swedish license and must meet Google's own requirements, and health, pharmaceutical and financial products carry both legal and platform restrictions. I check Google's current policies for your category before building, flag anything uncertain, and leave the legal reading to your advisor.

Budget pacing follows the Swedish calendar as much as the month. B2B search often quietens during the long summer holiday period and again around Christmas, while some consumer services see the opposite pattern. I set budgets as monthly plans, check spend against them during the month and move money between campaigns based on qualified inquiries rather than spreading it evenly. I do not quote expected costs per lead, because auctions, competitors and your offer decide those.

Ownership is simple: the Google Ads account, billing, tags and data belong to your company. I work through user access you grant and can be removed at any time, and every change is logged in the account history. I take no commissions from vendors or media, so my advice on budget is not tied to spend.

If paid search is one part of a broader acquisition plan, the B2B lead generation page for Sweden shows how it fits with LinkedIn, email and content. An account review is a sensible first step: get in touch, or see the Sweden overview for related work.

FAQ

Questions About Google Ads Sweden

Often yes, for B2B. Swedish buyers search many software, technical and professional topics in English while using Swedish for local services. Separate ad groups or campaigns for each language keep ad text matched to the query and make reporting clearer. The research decides which topics need both, and native speakers check the Swedish copy.

It depends on conversion volume and what you can measure. With few inquiries and no CRM data flowing back, Performance Max has little to learn from and is hard to audit. I usually start with search, build reliable offline conversions and only then test Performance Max with brand exclusions and a clear comparison against search results.

Visitors who decline cookies are not measured the same way, so the platform reports fewer conversions than actually happen and bidding has less data. Consent mode and modeled conversions narrow that gap, and CRM imports show the real business outcome. Your legal advisor decides on the consent setup; I make sure campaigns and reporting work within it.

Your company does. The account, billing profile, conversion setup and all history stay in your name. I work through access you grant and document the structure, negative lists and tracking so another manager or your own staff can continue without starting over. Removing my access is a single step in the account settings.

No. Costs depend on auction competition, your offer, landing pages, conversion rates and how strict the qualification is, and these change over time. I can estimate search demand and explain the cost drivers before launch, then report actual cost per qualified inquiry once campaigns run, without promising a figure in advance.
