Odoo Inventory in Denmark

Stock for designed goods and dated food

Why would a Danish brand hire an Odoo Inventory consultant?

For a Danish furniture, lighting or food brand, an Odoo Inventory consultant designs how variants, multi-parcel products, dropship from producers, showroom samples and stock held abroad are recorded, and how dated food items move first-expired-first-out. VAT on cross-border stock movements and bookkeeping requirements belong to Odoo Accounting and your accountant. I review and design this remotely, as a consultant with no tie to Odoo.

A Danish design brand might sell a sofa in many fabrics, ship a dining table in three parcels and have its lamps made by a workshop in Portugal that ships straight to the customer. A Danish food brand holds products with best-before dates and deposit-bearing packaging. Both need Odoo Inventory to describe goods the way they really move.

I work remotely with operations, supply chain and finance leads in Denmark. I map how products are made, stored, packed and delivered, then design variants, routes and locations in Odoo. The engagement runs in English, while Danish labels and delivery papers get a final read from people on your team.

What I Do

Inventory design for Danish brands

Each item is designed around how your goods are actually produced, stored and shipped.

Variant Structure

Attributes for fabric, color, finish and size set up so stock, reordering and lead times work per variant without thousands of hand-made product records to maintain.

Multi-Parcel Products

Furniture delivered in several boxes handled as kits or packages, so every parcel is picked, labeled and tracked, and a delivery is complete only when all parts ship.

Producer Dropship

Orders sent to European or Asian producers who ship directly to customers, with the sale, purchase and delivery linked, and late or partial shipments flagged early.

Showroom and Samples

Showroom pieces, fabric swatches and fair samples held in their own locations, valued separately, and sold off or written down by a rule agreed with finance.

Stock Abroad

A warehouse in Germany or Sweden set up in Odoo with transfers from Denmark, and the VAT questions about moving own goods across borders listed for your accountant.

Date-Coded Food

Lots with best-before dates, first-expired-first-out picking, alerts before dates run out and recall lists by lot, all designed together with your quality lead for food products.

Variants, finishes and parcels for design furniture

A Danish furniture or lighting brand can face a product data problem before a stock problem. A single chair model can exist in many combinations of frame finish, fabric and color. Some combinations are stocked; most may be made to order. And one product, such as a table or a modular sofa, may leave the warehouse as several parcels.

Odoo handles combinations through product attributes and variants. The design choices I make with your product and operations teams:

  • Which attributes create variants: attributes that affect stock, cost or lead time should create variants; purely descriptive ones can stay as text.
  • Dynamic creation: whether variants are created only when ordered, which avoids thousands of unused records for made-to-order combinations.
  • Stocked versus made to order: routes per variant, so a quote shows stock for a standard finish and the producer's lead time for a special one.
  • Parcels: a product shipped in several boxes can be modeled as a kit of components, a bill of materials type that needs the Manufacturing app installed, with each with its own barcode, weight and dimensions, so carriers receive correct parcel data and a delivery is not marked done with a box still on the shelf.

I test the structure with your hardest real products, such as a modular sofa in a special fabric, before loading the full catalog. The general Odoo mechanics are on my Odoo Inventory page.

Dropship from European workshops and Asian factories

A Danish design brand may own the design and the customer while workshops and factories in Europe or Asia make the goods. Some producers ship to the brand's warehouse; others ship directly to a dealer, a contract project site or a consumer. Each path needs its own route in Odoo.

  • Dropship: a customer order creates a purchase order to the producer, who ships to the customer. Odoo links the sale, the purchase and the delivery record, so customer service can answer where an order is without searching emails.
  • Producer to warehouse: standard purchase and receipt, with lead times per producer and per variant where they differ.
  • Mixed orders: a project order where some items ship from stock and others from the producer, with a rule for whether the customer receives one delivery or several.

Imports from outside the EU arrive through customs. Odoo's landed cost feature lets freight, duty and forwarding fees be added to the received goods, spread by quantity, value, weight or volume. For bulky furniture, volume or weight often gives a fairer split than value, but finance should choose. Duty and import VAT treatment are confirmed by your forwarder and accountant.

Producer reliability is the practical risk. I design how expected dates are confirmed, how delays reach customer service and how partial shipments are recorded, then test with a real delayed order before go-live.

Showrooms, samples and warehouses abroad

A Danish brand's stock may not all sit in one warehouse. Showroom pieces in Copenhagen, samples at trade fairs, fabric swatches with sellers and possibly a warehouse in Germany or Sweden all hold goods with value. If Odoo only knows the main warehouse, year-end stock and customer promises are both wrong.

The location design I propose:

  • Showroom locations: pieces on display held in their own location, excluded from available stock and valued by a method finance approves, often written down over time.
  • Sample and fair stock: samples moved to a fair or seller location and back, with a check after each event so missing pieces are noticed.
  • Warehouse abroad: a separate warehouse in Odoo, either in the same Danish company or in a local subsidiary, with replenishment transfers from Denmark.

The warehouse abroad needs a finance decision first. Moving your own goods from Denmark to a German or Swedish warehouse can create VAT registration and reporting consequences in the other country, depending on how the goods are later sold. Odoo can record the movement, but which documents and VAT entries it should generate is for your accountant to define. If the foreign warehouse belongs to a subsidiary, transfers become intercompany sales, with the accounting covered on my Odoo Accounting page for Denmark.

I test each movement end to end, including a showroom piece sold to a customer and a sample lost at a fair.

Food and beverage stock: dates, deposits and recalls

Danish food and drink producers, from coffee roasters to breweries and specialty food brands, carry stock where the date matters as much as the quantity. Odoo supports lot tracking with expiry and best-before dates, and a removal strategy of first expired, first out, so pickers are directed to the oldest usable stock.

The design work covers:

  • Which products carry lots and dates, and whether dates are entered at receipt or calculated from production.
  • Alerts before dates are reached, so stock can be discounted, moved to another channel or written off by a rule finance approves.
  • Recall lists: for a given lot, which customers received it, produced from Odoo's traceability report.
  • Customer date rules: retailers may refuse goods with less than a stated remaining shelf life, which your sales team defines per customer.

Two Danish topics may affect product and invoice data. Beverages in cans and bottles can fall under the Danish deposit return scheme, and packaging may carry producer responsibility obligations. How deposits and fees are invoiced and reported, and whether your Odoo version supports that natively or through configuration, needs confirming with your advisor and with Odoo or the partner. I make sure product records can carry the data.

Food safety obligations and traceability rules are defined by your quality lead and the food authorities. Odoo provides the records; your team decides what they must show.

Localization, edition and gaps for Danish inventory

The Danish localization in Odoo concerns accounting: chart of accounts, VAT and related reports. It does not shape warehouse operations. Delivery notes, pick lists and labels in Danish, and in German or Swedish for export, are layout work reviewed by your staff. Danish digital bookkeeping requirements apply to the accounting system and its records, so whether your setup meets them is a question for your accountant, discussed on the accounting page.

Edition matters for inventory. Warehouses, routes, variants, lots, dropship and, in recent versions, landed costs are in Odoo Community. Scanning with the Barcode app, quality control points and a large share of carrier integrations have required Enterprise; Odoo or the partner can tell you where the line falls for your release. Odoo Online restricts custom modules, which can matter for a bespoke link to a fulfillment partner or a carrier platform.

Where Odoo Inventory falls short:

  • a fulfillment partner runs its own warehouse system, so Odoo needs a tested integration rather than replacing it
  • large own warehouses with automation, slotting and labor planning need a dedicated warehouse system
  • food producers with complex recipes and yields need manufacturing design too, or a process ERP

Questions About Odoo Inventory Consultant Denmark

A product shipped in several parcels can be modeled as a kit, a bill of materials type that needs the Manufacturing app, with each box as a component carrying its own barcode, weight and dimensions. The delivery is then complete only when every box has shipped. I test this with your most complex products first.

Yes. A customer order can generate a purchase order to the producer, who ships directly to the customer, with sale, purchase and delivery linked. I design how producers confirm dates, how delays reach customer service and how partial shipments are recorded.

Odoo can manage a warehouse abroad, in the Danish company or a local subsidiary. Moving your own goods across borders can have VAT consequences in the other country, so your accountant must define the treatment before I design the documents and entries Odoo generates.

Yes. Lots can carry expiry or best-before dates, and a first expired, first out removal strategy directs pickers to the oldest usable stock. Alerts before dates run out and recall lists by lot are also available. I design the rules with your quality lead.
