Belgium

One country, two search markets and a third language in the east

What should a Google Ads consultant do for a Belgian business?

A Google Ads consultant for Belgium builds search advertising around the country's language split. I work remotely on separate French and Dutch campaigns, a deliberate plan for Brussels and German where relevant, Belgian vocabulary checked by fluent speakers, competition from Dutch and French advertisers, consent handling, CRM stage uploads and reporting per community. You keep ownership of the account, and no cost or lead figure is promised.

Advertising on Google in Belgium means running at least two search markets inside one small country. Flemish buyers search in Dutch, Walloon buyers in French, Brussels mixes both with English, and East Belgium adds German. Each group sees results shaped by its own language and often by sites from the Netherlands or France. An account that treats Belgium as one audience wastes money and muddles its reports.

Working remotely and independently, I set up and manage Google Ads search campaigns for Belgian companies, or audit the account your team or agency already runs. We work in English. French, Dutch and German ad text is produced or proofed by people who speak those languages natively, from your staff or a Belgian partner.

The account remains in your company's name with your billing. I take no commission from Google or any vendor, and I do not promise costs or lead numbers. My commitment is clear structure, careful measurement and reporting based on what your CRM records about each inquiry.

What I Do

Search advertising across Belgium's language markets

Every service is built around the language split, because that split decides structure, copy, budgets and reporting.

Campaigns by Language Community

Separate French and Dutch campaigns with their own keywords, ads, budgets and landing pages, plus German where you serve East Belgium, so each audience sees copy that reads naturally and results can be compared.

Belgian Vocabulary Checks

Keyword lists built on Belgian usage rather than terms imported from Paris or Amsterdam, with fluent speakers on your side checking ad text and spotting words that sound foreign to a Belgian buyer.

Brussels Targeting

A deliberate approach to the capital region, where French, Dutch and English searches overlap, including whether to run bilingual ad groups, English campaigns for international offices or both.

Negatives in Each Language

Shared negative keyword lists in French, Dutch and English, filtering job searches, student queries, free tools, public services and offers you do not sell, refreshed from search term reviews.

Conversion and Consent Setup

Tags, conversion goals and consent behavior checked against the banner your visitors see, with offline stages from your CRM uploaded to Google Ads so bidding learns from qualified inquiries.

Reporting by Region and Language

Reports that split spend, qualified leads and pipeline by language campaign and region from the CRM, so you can decide where budget works rather than reading one blended national figure.

Why French and Dutch campaigns should stay separate

Google Ads lets you target several languages in one campaign, and some Belgian accounts do exactly that: one campaign, keywords in both languages, ads in whichever language Google picks. It looks efficient and causes problems. Budgets flow toward whichever language has more searches or cheaper clicks. Reports blend Flanders and Wallonia into one figure. Ads in one language can appear beside queries in the other, and landing pages switch language unpredictably.

I separate them at campaign level:

  • A Dutch-language campaign for Flanders, with Flemish vocabulary and Dutch landing pages.
  • A French-language campaign for Wallonia, with Belgian French copy and French landing pages.
  • A plan for Brussels, which may share both campaigns or get its own, depending on where your customers are.
  • A German-language campaign only where you genuinely serve the German-speaking community in the east.

Each campaign gets its own budget, so you decide how much goes to each community instead of letting the auction decide. Location targeting uses regions and provinces where it helps, and language settings are aligned with the copy. Fluent speakers from your team or a Belgian partner write or review the ads; I make sure the structure, keywords and tracking support them. The same split applies to organic search, which my Belgian SEO page covers from the website side.

Competing with Dutch and French sites in the same auction

Belgian searchers often see advertisers from across the border. A Flemish query may trigger ads from Dutch companies that deliver into Belgium, and a Walloon search may show French suppliers. Those advertisers can have larger budgets, but they often show Dutch or French prices, delivery terms, phone numbers and legal references. That is the opening for a Belgian advertiser: ads and pages that are clearly Belgian.

The signals I build in:

  • Ad text that mentions Belgian service areas, Belgian contact details and terms that fit Belgian practice.
  • Landing pages with Belgian company and VAT details, prices or price drivers with Belgian conditions, and references to Belgian standards where they apply.
  • Vocabulary checked by fluent speakers, because Belgian Dutch and Belgian French differ from the Netherlands and France in ways buyers notice.
  • Location and call assets with Belgian numbers.

If you are a Belgian company selling into the Netherlands or France, the same logic runs in reverse. Those markets get their own campaigns written for their audience, not your Belgian ads with extra countries switched on. Location targeting relies on where people are located rather than interest in Belgium, unless your business serves visitors. Keeping these campaigns apart also shows which cross-border markets produce real inquiries, which helps decide where expansion is worth the effort. For the wider strategy, my international SEO page complements the paid side.

Performance Max, landing pages and restricted sectors

Performance Max decides where ads appear across Google's channels based on your assets and conversion goals. In Belgium it adds a language complication: asset groups need copy in each language, and the campaign's reporting gives limited insight into which language audience produced the result. For ecommerce with a product feed in both languages and reliable sales tracking, it can be worth testing. For service businesses and B2B firms with modest conversion volumes, I start with Search, establish offline conversion import, and only then test Performance Max in one language community at a time, with brand exclusions.

Landing pages are where many Belgian accounts lose inquiries. A frequent pattern is a well-built French page with a Dutch version that was translated quickly and never checked, or a page that switches language partway through the form. I review each landing page for language consistency, message match with the ad, form length, speed and the company details a Belgian buyer looks for before contacting a supplier.

Some sectors face extra advertising limits. Ads for financial products, medicines and health claims, betting or alcoholic drinks may meet limits set by Google's policies and by Belgian or European law, sometimes with a verification step for the advertiser. I flag where restrictions are likely to apply and plan campaigns within them; the legal reading belongs with your compliance team or lawyer. For Brussels associations and public affairs firms, political or issue-based advertising may fall under separate rules and verification, which also need advice before launch.

Consent, the Belgian regulator and CRM-based tracking

Belgium applies EU privacy rules through national law, and the Belgian Data Protection Authority has taken positions on cookie consent and banner design in its guidance and decisions. Most business sites now ask visitors before placing advertising cookies. When visitors decline, Google Ads loses sight of their conversions. Consent mode adapts tags to each choice and lets Google model part of what is missing. Setting it up alongside your consent platform, I make the difference between observed and modeled conversions clear in reports. What your banner must offer, and how, is for your data protection officer or advisor to confirm.

Because platform data is incomplete, the CRM is the better reference:

  1. Each form captures the click identifier, campaign parameters and the language of the page.
  2. The CRM stores those values on the lead and keeps them as it becomes a contact and opportunity.
  3. Your sales lead decides which stages matter, for example qualified, proposal and won.
  4. Those stages are uploaded to Google Ads by connector, scheduled import or integration.

Recording the page language has a practical benefit: you can compare pipeline from French and Dutch campaigns directly, rather than guessing from platform data. My CRM consulting in Belgium covers how one company is kept as one record when staff use different language names for it, which also affects attribution.

Budgets, ownership and reporting across communities

Search volume differs between Flanders, Wallonia and Brussels for most B2B and service categories, and so do competition and click costs. A single national budget hides that. I set budgets per language campaign, monitor how each paces against the plan, and recommend shifting money toward the community where qualified inquiries come through. Holiday periods, which can differ between the French-speaking and Dutch-speaking school calendars, and sector seasons are planned for rather than discovered afterward. Budget amounts are never quoted blind; the starting level is one your finance lead accepts, and it moves only on evidence.

Your company holds the Google Ads account, its billing, the tag container and every conversion setting. I work as a user with the access each task requires. If an agency holds your account in its manager structure, I help secure ownership first, so the history belongs to you regardless of who manages it later. I take no commissions on spend.

Reports show spend, qualified leads, opportunities and pipeline by language campaign and region, read from the CRM, with platform metrics used to explain changes and recommendations attached to each report. The work is remote, scheduled in Belgian business hours, with visits only by arrangement. My Belgian B2B lead generation page places paid search in a wider plan, and the Belgium overview lists other services.

Questions About Google Ads Belgium

You can, but I rarely recommend it. Budgets drift toward one language, reports blend two different markets and ads may show in the wrong language. Separate French and Dutch campaigns, each with its own budget and landing pages, give you control and comparable results. Brussels then gets a deliberate decision rather than a default.

As a starting point only. Belgian French and Belgian Dutch differ in vocabulary, and buyers notice references to French or Dutch prices, contacts and rules. Fluent speakers on your staff or a Belgian partner should adapt the copy, and landing pages should show Belgian company and contact details.

Only if you actively serve the German-speaking community in East Belgium or plan to. It is a small audience, so a modest campaign with copy written by a first-language German speaker and a German landing page is usually enough. If you do not serve the area, excluding German-language searches keeps the account cleaner.

Visitors who decline advertising cookies cannot be tracked in the usual way, so platform conversions are partly observed and partly modeled through consent mode. I configure it and explain the difference, and I rely on CRM stages for decisions. Your banner's legal requirements should be confirmed by your data protection advisor.
