Winning Spanish searches in a global Spanish-speaking web

What does an SEO consultant do for businesses in Spain?

An SEO consultant for businesses in Spain helps them compete in Spanish-language results that also include Latin American sites. My remote work covers Spain-specific vocabulary and unaccented queries, Catalan, Basque or Galician versions where demand justifies them, .es or multi-country structures with hreflang, local SEO, technical fixes, B2B content and AI answer checks, measured through inquiries in your CRM.

Spanish is spoken across many countries, and that shapes search in Spain. A company in Valencia competing for a Spanish-language query may find pages from Mexico, Argentina or Colombia ranking alongside its Spanish rivals, written with different vocabulary and aimed at different buyers. Add Catalan, Basque and Galician, each used by real customers in their regions, and a Spanish website has more language decisions to make than it first appears.

As an independent consultant working remotely, I handle SEO for Spain-based companies, covering keyword research for Spanish buyers, language and site structure, local SEO, technical audits, B2B content planning and visibility in AI-generated answers.

The engagement runs in English. Research and briefs come from me; Spanish and regional-language copy is drafted or edited by native writers, in-house or from an agency you hire.

What I Do

SEO services for companies in Spain

Designed for Spain's own vocabulary, its co-official languages and companies that also sell into Latin America.

Spain-Focused Research

Keyword research that separates the terms Spanish buyers use from Latin American equivalents, including queries typed without accents and regional modifiers.

Co-Official Language Versions

Deciding whether Catalan, Basque or Galician versions are justified, then setting up ca, eu and gl pages with hreflang and switchers that lead to equivalent content.

Spain and Latin America Structure

Site architecture for companies selling in Spain and Latin American markets, with es-ES and country-specific versions such as es-MX only where content genuinely differs.

Local SEO

Google Business Profile for each eligible site, consistent details across Spanish directories and maps, city pages with real substance and a fair review request routine.

Technical SEO

Crawling, indexing, duplicate language versions, structured data, rendering and mobile speed reviewed, with fixes written as tickets for your developer or agency.

AI Answers and Measurement

Checks on how AI answers describe your company in Spanish, plus Search Console, analytics and CRM reporting set up to follow the consent approach your advisor approves.

Spanish from Spain is not the Spanish of every result

Vocabulary separates Spain from Latin America in ways that matter for search. Spaniards say ordenador and móvil where many Latin Americans say computadora and celular, and business terms, job titles and product names vary in similar ways. A page using Latin American terms can read as foreign to a buyer in Seville, while a Spanish page may miss searches from Mexico City.

Search results reflect this only partly. For broad informational queries, Spanish-language pages from several countries compete, and large Latin American publishers often rank well. For commercial queries with local intent, Spanish companies have an advantage, but only if their pages use the words Spanish buyers actually type.

Typing habits add a further detail. Many people search without accents or the tilde on the ñ, especially on mobile, and results for accented and unaccented versions can differ. Research has to consider both forms.

My research for Spain therefore covers:

  • Terms used in Spain compared with Latin American equivalents for the same service.
  • Accented and unaccented forms of priority queries.
  • Place modifiers such as cities, provinces and autonomous communities.
  • Search results reviewed to see whether Spanish or foreign sites dominate each topic.

The topic map then assigns query groups to pages. Spanish text is written by native writers from Spain on your side, following my briefs. The broader method sits on my SEO consulting page.

Catalan, Basque and Galician: when a version is worth it

Spain's co-official languages are part of everyday life in their regions. Catalan is spoken daily in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands and the Valencian Community, Basque in the Basque Country and parts of Navarre, Galician in Galicia. Public bodies publish in these languages, and some customers prefer to search and buy in them.

Whether your site needs a version depends on your audience. A business serving consumers or public-sector clients in Catalonia may gain from Catalan pages; a B2B exporter selling nationally may not. I look at the evidence before recommending anything:

  • Search demand for your services in each language.
  • Whether competitors in the region offer regional-language pages.
  • Whether your customers or tenders expect documents in that language.
  • Whether your team can maintain the content over time.

When a version is justified, the technical setup uses language codes such as ca, eu and gl alongside es-ES, with complete hreflang sets, return links and switchers that lead to the equivalent page rather than the home page. Partial versions are fine as long as hreflang only links pages that exist in both languages. Native writers from the region produce the content; machine translation without review tends to read poorly to local speakers. The international SEO page explains the general approach to multilingual sites.

A .es domain, Spain and Latin America on one site

Many Spanish companies sell beyond Spain, often into Latin America as well as Europe. The domain and structure decision should follow the business plan:

  • A .es domain suits companies focused on Spain. It gives a clear local signal and keeps things simple.
  • An international domain with folders, such as /es/ for Spain and /mx/ for Mexico, suits companies with real operations or sales teams in several Spanish-speaking markets.
  • Separate country domains make sense only when local teams can maintain them.

A common mistake is publishing one Spanish version for all markets, then wondering why it underperforms in Mexico or Colombia. Prices, currencies, delivery terms, legal information and vocabulary differ, and buyers notice. Country versions such as es-MX or es-CO should exist only where content is genuinely adapted; otherwise a single Spanish version with clear signals is safer than thin copies.

The international SEO strategy page covers how markets are prioritized. On the technical side I check hreflang sets, x-default, canonical tags between similar versions and geo-redirects that might block crawlers or users. When structure changes involve moving URLs, redirect mapping and post-launch checks follow the SEO migration method.

Local SEO and technical health for Spanish businesses

For businesses with premises, such as clinics, workshops, installers, distributors with trade counters and professional firms, local results bring many of the best inquiries. My local SEO work in Spain includes:

  • Google Business Profile per branch or premises that qualifies, described in Spanish and, where customers expect it, the regional language.
  • Consistent name, address and phone across Spanish directories, maps and sector listings.
  • City pages only where you have a real presence or service area, with local detail rather than a template.
  • Reviews requested from genuine customers, with replies from the business. Buying reviews or offering rewards for them breaks platform rules and consumer protection expectations.
  • Call and WhatsApp tracking, because many Spanish customers prefer to phone or message instead of filling in a form.

Technical issues often hold Spanish sites back as much as content does. Sites built on themes with heavy scripts, online stores with endless filter URLs and multilingual plugins producing duplicate pages are common causes of trouble. My technical SEO audit covers crawling, indexing, duplicate language versions, structured data, JavaScript rendering and mobile speed, with each fix written as a ticket that can be verified after release.

B2B content, AI answers and measuring results under consent rules

Spanish B2B buyers research online before talking to sales, often comparing local suppliers with international ones. Content that answers their practical questions in Spain's own terms, such as scope, delivery, regulation and what affects cost, helps you stand out. I build topic maps and briefs around those questions, linking service pages, guides and answers to sales objections so the site builds authority in your niche.

AI-generated answers in Google, ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot and Perplexity increasingly summarize suppliers and options. I review what these tools say about your company on the topics that matter in Spanish, then correct gaps and inconsistencies on your site and profiles. No one can promise how an AI system will cite a business; the aim is that the information it finds is accurate. My AI search optimization page sets out the method.

Measurement must respect privacy rules. GDPR applies, and the Spanish data protection agency has issued guidance on cookies. When visitors decline analytics cookies, data is incomplete, so trend lines are read as partial. The consent design is your lawyer's call; tracking is then configured to match it. Reports combine Search Console by version, analytics key events and CRM inquiries by source. Rankings are reported as a signal, never promised. If search is one strand of a wider change program, see digital transformation in Spain. All work is remote; the Spain overview lists the rest.

FAQ

Questions About SEO Consultant Spain

For broad queries, Spanish-language pages from many countries compete, and some Latin American publishers have large, established sites. Using Spain's own vocabulary, adding clear local signals and focusing on commercial queries with Spanish intent usually gives a Spanish company a fairer chance. Results still depend on competition and content quality.

It depends on your customers. Businesses serving consumers or public bodies in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands or Valencia may benefit, while national B2B firms may not. I review search demand, competitor practice and your capacity to maintain content before recommending a Catalan version or any other regional language.

It can work when you have no local operations abroad, but it rarely performs as well as adapted versions. Vocabulary, prices, currencies and legal details differ. Where you sell seriously in a market, a country version with adapted content and correct hreflang is usually the better option.

It varies with competition, site history and how quickly fixes and content go live, so I avoid promising timelines or rankings. Technical fixes can show effects in Search Console relatively early, while content and authority build more gradually. Reporting tracks progress against qualified inquiries rather than rankings alone.
