What does an AI search optimization consultant do?
An AI search optimization consultant looks at how your business appears across AI-driven search, including Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Microsoft Copilot, and builds a plan to improve it. I audit how AI answers describe your brand, strengthen entity SEO and topical authority, fix schema and technical gaps, and fill the content gaps that cause AI tools to rely on other sources instead of you.

Search is no longer a list of ten links. Google shows AI Overviews and offers AI Mode, ChatGPT and Perplexity answer questions with cited sources, and Microsoft Copilot sits inside Bing and Windows. Your buyers move between all of them, often in the same research session, and each one forms a view of your business.
As an AI search optimization consultant, I help you see that whole picture and act on it. I audit how these tools describe your brand and your competitors, then strengthen the foundations they all draw on: entity SEO, topical authority, structured data, technical health and content that fills the gaps AI answers expose.
I work remotely with B2B companies and growing businesses worldwide. Engagements usually start with an AI search audit and roadmap, then continue as advisory alongside your marketing team, developers or agency. I will not promise placements in AI answers, but I will show you clearly where you stand and what to fix.
This is the umbrella engagement. It pulls together technical SEO, entity work, content strategy and measurement so your visibility does not depend on any single platform.
Reviewing how Google AI Overviews, AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot describe your company, services and competitors, and where those descriptions are missing, outdated or wrong.
Defining your organization, people, services and topics as clear entities, connected through consistent naming, internal links, structured data and reputable external profiles that search systems can reconcile.
Planning content clusters that cover your core subjects in genuine depth, with pillar pages, supporting articles and internal links that show search systems you are a credible source on the topic.
A site-wide structured data plan covering Organization, Person, Service, Product, Article, FAQ and Breadcrumb types, implemented consistently and validated against what is visible on each page.
Comparing the questions AI answers address with what your site actually covers, then prioritizing new pages, rewrites and consolidation where AI tools currently rely on competitors or third parties.
Making sure your site is verified and indexed properly in Bing Webmaster Tools, since Copilot and several other AI tools depend on Bing's index, an area many businesses overlook.
Crawlability, rendering, indexation, page speed and AI crawler access reviewed together, so all search systems can fetch and understand your important pages without obstacles.
A combined view of Search Console, Bing Webmaster Tools, GA4 AI referrals, prompt-based visibility checks and CRM source data, so AI search is judged on inquiries rather than impressions.

AI search optimization is the overall strategy for staying visible as search shifts from links to generated answers. It covers every surface where an AI system summarizes the web for your buyers: Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity, and Microsoft Copilot in Bing. Each works differently, but they share a dependence on crawlable pages, clear entities and trustworthy content.
On this site, I split the work into three related services so each gets proper attention:
Most businesses need a mix. The umbrella audit tells you which parts matter most for your market, so you do not spend effort on tactics that will not move anything. It also connects AI search with your existing SEO program, because the two share far more than they differ.
The first question is simple: when a buyer asks an AI tool about your category, your company or your competitors, what do they hear? I find out with a structured audit rather than a few ad hoc searches.
Together we define a set of prompts across three groups:
I run these across Google AI Overviews and AI Mode where available, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot, and record what each says: whether you appear, how you are described, which sources are cited and which competitors are named. Answers vary by session, location and time, so I treat results as patterns, not exact positions.
The findings often surprise people. AI tools may describe an old service line, mix you up with a similarly named company or cite a directory listing instead of your own site. Each of those points to a specific fix: an entity problem, a content gap, an outdated profile or a technical barrier. The audit report ranks those fixes by business impact.
AI systems reason about entities: organizations, people, products, services, places and concepts, and the relationships between them. If those relationships are unclear, the system fills gaps from whatever it can find. Entity SEO makes them explicit.
In practice that means a consistent name and description across your site and external profiles, a clear About page, real people behind the content with their own profile pages, and service pages that each cover one offering properly. Structured data then states those facts in a machine-readable way. I plan schema site-wide so Organization, Person, Service, Article and Breadcrumb markup connect logically, rather than adding isolated snippets page by page.
Topical authority is the content side of the same idea. A site that covers a subject thoroughly, with a pillar page, supporting guides and sensible internal links, gives search systems more reason to trust it on that subject. A site with scattered, shallow posts on many topics gives them less. I map your core topics into clusters, identify what is missing and recommend what to consolidate.
None of this is new to good SEO. AI search simply raises the cost of getting it wrong, because a vague brand is easier to misdescribe. Strong technical SEO keeps all of it crawlable.
When an AI tool answers a question in your field without citing you, it is often because your site does not answer that question directly, or answers it less clearly than another source. Content gap analysis for AI search compares what the answers cover with what your pages cover.
I look at the sources AI tools cite for your priority prompts and ask what they provide that you do not. Common gaps include:
The resulting plan prioritizes new pages, rewrites and merges. It favors depth on fewer topics over volume, because thin content rarely earns citations. For businesses with large structured datasets, programmatic SEO can help, but only where each page answers a distinct need.
Content also needs a life outside your site. AI tools draw on reviews, industry publications, directories and community discussions, so the plan includes where your expertise should appear beyond your own domain.
Measurement in AI search is still immature, so I build a framework from several sources and avoid pretending any single number is precise:
The missing piece in most AI search reporting is the link to revenue. Because I also work on CRM consulting and business systems, I make sure inquiries carry their first-touch source and landing page into the CRM, and that a structured "how did you find us" field captures mentions of AI tools. Over time, that shows whether AI search contributes to qualified opportunities, which is the question leadership actually asks.
Reviews are quarterly, with a short report on what changed, what we learned and what comes next.

AI search optimization is the umbrella strategy across Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, ChatGPT search, Perplexity and Copilot, including brand audits, entity SEO, topical authority and schema. GEO focuses specifically on being cited as a source. AEO focuses on question research and concise answers. The umbrella audit tells you which mix your business needs.
For some informational queries, fewer searchers click through because the answer appears on the results page. The effect varies by topic and query type. That is why I measure visibility, branded demand and inquiries alongside clicks, and focus on topics where being cited or mentioned still leads buyers toward you.
Mostly no. They share core needs: crawlable pages, clear entities, accurate structured data and genuinely useful content. There are practical differences, such as Copilot depending on Bing's index, and different crawlers to allow. I handle those specifics within one plan rather than running separate programs.
No one can control AI answers directly. You can influence them by making accurate information easy to find on your site and on reputable external sources, correcting outdated profiles and filling content gaps. The audit shows where AI descriptions are wrong and traces each issue to a fix you can act on.
Start with the basics. AI search depends on the same crawlable, well-structured, trustworthy pages as classic search. If your site has indexing problems, thin content or no clear service pages, fixing those comes first. I scope the audit so technical and content foundations are addressed before more specialized AI work.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
