How can Zoho People support HR in a Jordanian company or NGO?
In a Jordanian company or NGO, Zoho People should hold Arabic and English staff files with permit tracking for non-Jordanian employees, leave and Ramadan schedules, timesheets that charge staff time to donor grants, and pass a monthly package to whichever payroll system works out social security and income tax. I design this remotely and independently, while Arabic wording is checked by native speakers on your team.

Jordanian employers range from software houses and consultancies to international NGOs running donor-funded programs across several governorates. Their HR teams share a common load: staff records in Arabic and English, work permits for non-Jordanian employees, leave approvals by email, and for NGOs, timesheets that donors may audit long after the work is done.
My role is to turn Zoho People into the record those teams rely on. Working remotely and independently, I read your handbook and existing files, write the configuration design in English, have Arabic text prepared and checked by your bilingual staff, and test everything against real cases before your HR team takes over.
The scope covers companies and NGOs alike, with grant time tracking added where donors fund the salaries.
Employee files holding Arabic and English names, national or residency identifiers, contract type and funding source, designed so HR, finance and program managers each see the parts they need.
Dated records of work permits, residency documents and contract end dates for non-Jordanian staff, with alerts to HR ahead of expiry and restricted access to scanned copies.
Timesheets where staff charge hours to grants, projects or cost centers, approved by supervisors and locked after approval, so effort reports for donors match what payroll charged.
Leave types from your handbook, a holiday calendar HR updates when official dates are announced, and Ramadan working hours prepared in advance as a schedule variant.
A monthly file of joiners, leavers, changes, unpaid leave, overtime and grant allocation, prepared for the payroll provider or package that calculates social security and income tax.
Checklists for contracts, safeguarding and code of conduct acknowledgments, equipment, system access and exit clearances, with each task owned by HR, IT, finance or the line manager.

HR and finance run it
A Jordanian workforce can mix nationals, residents from neighboring countries, refugees permitted to work in certain sectors and international staff on fixed assignments. Each group carries different documents and renewal cycles, and HR needs to know whose permit expires next, not discover it when a renewal is already late.
The Zoho People record then reflects those differences:
Which documents you must hold and which sectors are open to which nationalities are questions for your HR or legal advisor, and the rules change. I build what they confirm and keep scanned documents visible only to HR.
Names deserve care. Arabic and English spellings of the same name differ between passports, contracts and bank records. I set up both fields and a rule for which one each document uses, and your bilingual staff check the result.
For an international NGO or a local organization running donor-funded programs in Jordan, staff time is usually the largest cost charged to grants. Donors commonly expect salary charges to be supported by timesheets showing how each person's time was split, approved by a supervisor and consistent with what payroll actually charged. When timesheets live in spreadsheets, that consistency is hard to prove.
Zoho People includes timesheets and lets time be logged against projects or jobs. I configure them so they serve grant reporting:
Each donor's rules differ, and some require specific formats or signed statements. Your grants and finance team defines those requirements; I make sure the data can produce them. If time is also tracked for program delivery in Zoho Projects, we decide together which app is the master, covered on my Zoho Projects Jordan page.
Jordanian organizations commonly work a Sunday to Thursday week, with some teams on different patterns: security, field staff, call centers or software teams aligned with clients abroad. During Ramadan, working hours are usually reduced, and religious holidays depend on the Hijri calendar, so exact dates come by official announcement shortly beforehand.
I design these as configuration HR can maintain:
Your HR or legal advisor confirms what Jordanian labor law and your contracts entitle staff to. I test each leave type with real employees, including a mid-year joiner, someone on a fixed-term contract ending mid-cycle and a staff member who moves between grants, before balances go live. Performance reviews follow the same discipline: simple forms aligned with your appraisal policy and contract renewal decisions.
Zoho People records HR inputs; it does not calculate Jordanian payroll. Social security contributions, income tax on salaries and the related filings sit with whichever local payroll software, bureau or ERP payroll your finance team uses. Zoho Payroll covers only some countries, so check with Zoho or the partner whether any payroll option exists for Jordan in your account before planning around it.
The monthly handoff I design includes:
For the first live month, both the old process and the new export run in parallel, and finance signs off only when the results agree. Salary amounts can stay outside Zoho People to limit who sees them.
Posting the payroll journal into the ledger is discussed on my Zoho Books Jordan page, and the Zoho One Jordan page discusses licensing when staff and freelancers share the suite.
HR policies in Jordan are often issued in Arabic, with English versions for international staff and management. Both must say the same thing. The engagement runs in English, so I prepare the structure and labels, and Arabic-speaking colleagues in HR, or a local partner, draft and review the Arabic: leave type names, letter templates, self-service labels and policy documents attached in Zoho People. Native speakers on your team also test right-to-left display in printed letters and the mobile app before rollout.
Staff data needs protection. Jordan has personal data protection legislation, and NGOs may also carry donor or headquarters policies on staff data and safeguarding records. Your legal advisor and compliance lead decide what applies. I configure access by role, keep sensitive documents to HR, limit exports and request a written statement from Zoho naming the hosting region of your account.
I would suggest something other than Zoho People when:
For the broader setup, read Zoho in Jordan; the ERP consultant page for Jordan and the Jordan overview describe remote engagements there.

Not sure which ERP you need?
Share your business requirements with me and I will help you understand the right process, architecture and platform before implementation.
They can, if grants are set up as jobs with finance codes, staff confirm actual time each period, supervisors approve and lock timesheets, and approved time is compared with payroll allocation monthly. Each donor's format and rules come from your grants team. I make sure the data can produce what they require.
No. Social security contributions and income tax on salaries are calculated by your payroll provider, package or ERP, unless Zoho confirms a Jordanian payroll option for your account; check that with Zoho or the partner. Zoho People supplies approved inputs: staff changes, leave, overtime and grant allocation.
Yes. Permits, residency documents and passports become dated entries with an owner and alerts ahead of expiry, and scans are visible only to HR. Which documents you need and the rules for each nationality come from your HR or legal advisor, since they change over time.
No. My role is independent advice, not a Zoho partnership, and I take no commissions or license margin. That keeps my view on editions, extra apps or a different HR product free of any sales interest. Where an implementer is already involved, I can collaborate with them or audit what they have built.
Everything from policy review to training happens online, and short recordings let field staff in other governorates learn at their own pace. The engagement runs in English, with Arabic materials prepared and checked by your bilingual staff. Meeting in person for a key milestone can be considered by arrangement.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
