Search on mobile data in Lagos, Abuja and beyond

What does an SEO consultant do for Nigerian businesses?

An SEO consultant for Nigeria builds visibility for how Nigerians actually search: on phones, on paid data, in Nigerian English with Pidgin and local-language queries, often with an area name added. My remote work covers fast lightweight pages, local SEO in Lagos, Abuja and other cities, diaspora targeting, content for B2B buyers, visibility in AI answers, and call and WhatsApp tracking in your CRM, with no ranking promises.

Nigerian searchers are mostly on phones, paying for data and watching it disappear on heavy pages. They search in English, sometimes in Pidgin or with Nigerian English terms that a global keyword tool does not recognize, and they often add an area such as Ikeja, Lekki or Wuse to find someone nearby. When they find a business, they want to call or send a WhatsApp message, not fill in a long form.

I work remotely with Nigerian businesses as an independent SEO consultant. My work covers keyword research in Nigerian English and Pidgin, mobile speed and technical SEO, local SEO in Lagos, Abuja and other cities, content for B2B and service buyers, diaspora search where it matters, AI answer visibility and tracking inquiries into your CRM.

Everything I deliver is in English. Pidgin, Yoruba, Hausa or Igbo copy, where it makes sense, is written or reviewed by native speakers in your business or at a partner agency.

What I Do

SEO built for Nigerian searchers

Designed around mobile data costs, local intent by area and buyers who would rather call than complete a form.

Local-Language Keyword Research

Research in Nigerian English, with Pidgin and local-language queries where they appear, local terms and spellings, and the area names people add when they want a nearby supplier.

Speed for Mobile Data

Lighter pages for visitors paying for every megabyte: compressed images, fewer scripts, sensible hosting and Core Web Vitals checked on slower connections, not only on office broadband.

Lagos and Abuja Local SEO

A Business Profile per branch that qualifies, with exact pins and landmark details, area pages where you genuinely operate, consistent listings and an honest review routine.

Diaspora and Export Search

Pages and hreflang for Nigerians abroad or international buyers, for example in real estate, education or export services, with clear targeting so each audience lands on the right version.

B2B and Technical Content

Service, industry and capability pages for corporate, oil and gas and public sector buyers, written to answer what procurement and technical teams check before shortlisting.

Inquiry Tracking and AI

Phone calls, WhatsApp taps and form fills from organic search recorded in your CRM, plus consistent company facts so AI answers describe your business accurately.

Nigerian English, Pidgin and how people phrase searches

Global keyword tools are built mostly on British and American usage, and they miss much of how Nigerians search. Nigerian English has its own terms for everyday things, from housing and transport to business services and payments. Pidgin appears in searches and, even more, in the social content and conversations that influence what people look for. Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo are used for some local and community searches, and the spelling of names and places varies a great deal.

My research for Nigerian sites covers:

  • Nigerian English terms for your services, including local abbreviations and brand names used as generic words
  • Pidgin and local-language queries where they carry real demand
  • Area modifiers, such as Lagos neighborhoods, Abuja districts and other cities
  • Questions people ask before buying, which feed featured results and AI answers

Most commercial pages will be in English, written so Nigerian readers recognize their own vocabulary. Where Pidgin or a local language would help, such as FAQs, short explainers or campaign landing pages, native speakers, in-house or at a partner, write or check the text. I avoid machine translation for this; it rarely sounds natural. My broader approach is on the SEO consulting page.

Page speed when every megabyte costs money

Mobile data is a real expense for many Nigerian visitors, and network quality varies across the day and across the country. A page loaded with large images, sliders, video backgrounds and several tracking scripts uses up data and patience. Visitors leave, and search engines, which judge sites largely on how their mobile pages perform, register the poor experience.

My technical SEO work for Nigerian sites starts with weight and speed:

  • Leaner pages. Compressed, correctly sized images, fewer fonts and plugins, and video only on request.
  • Core Web Vitals checked on modest phones and slower connections, not only on fast office broadband.
  • Hosting and caching. Server location, response times and a content delivery network where it helps Nigerian visitors.
  • Contact first. Phone and WhatsApp buttons visible early and working correctly, so a visitor can act even if the rest of the page loads slowly.
  • Technical hygiene. Crawling, indexing, canonical tags, redirects and structured data reviewed and fixed.

Each problem goes to your developer or agency as a ticket stating the change needed and how to confirm it worked. For deeper performance work, see the Core Web Vitals consulting page.

Local SEO in Lagos, Abuja and other cities

Many Nigerian searches have local intent. People look for a clinic in Lekki, a logistics company in Apapa, a lawyer in Wuse or an electronics shop in Ikeja, and the businesses that appear in map results get the calls. Addresses are often described by street, landmark and area, and pins can be wrong when a profile was set up in a hurry, which sends customers to the wrong place.

My local SEO work for Nigerian businesses includes:

  • A Business Profile for every branch that qualifies, with a correct pin, landmark-based directions, phone and WhatsApp details, opening hours and real photos.
  • Area pages for parts of Lagos, Abuja, Port Harcourt or Ibadan where you really have customers or premises, with details that only apply to that area rather than a swapped place name.
  • Consistent name, phone and location details across Nigerian directories, social profiles and industry listings.
  • Service-area settings for installers, repair firms and others who travel to the customer.
  • A routine for inviting genuine customers to share honest feedback, with a reply to every review. Paid, invented or rewarded reviews are off the table; platforms remove them and customers notice.

Tracking separates calls, WhatsApp clicks and direction requests by location, so each branch can see what local search delivers.

Domains, diaspora search and data protection

A .ng or .com.ng domain gives a clear Nigerian signal and suits businesses focused on the domestic market. A .com with a Nigerian subfolder may suit companies that also serve other West African markets or international buyers. Businesses in sectors such as real estate, education, travel, logistics and professional services often have a second audience: Nigerians living abroad and foreign partners searching from the UK, the US, Canada or elsewhere. Those visitors need clear pages for their questions, and hreflang such as en-NG, en-GB and en-US where versions genuinely differ in prices, payment options or contact routes.

Measurement must also follow privacy rules. Nigeria's data protection law covers the handling of personal data, and many website tools touch it: analytics, chat widgets, call tracking and ad tags. I list what each one collects; consent wording and settings are decisions for your legal advisor. Reporting then works within those decisions:

  • Search Console as the visibility baseline, independent of cookies.
  • Analytics set up to follow whatever consent model you choose.
  • Phone, WhatsApp and form leads logged in the CRM with where they came from.

B2B buyers, AI answers and inquiries that turn into revenue

Nigerian B2B buyers, from oil and gas operators and manufacturers to banks, telecom companies and government agencies, check suppliers carefully. They look for evidence of capability, sectors served, how delivery works, registrations and a contact who responds. I plan content around those checks: capability and service pages with real detail, industry pages and clear explanations of process and cost drivers that a procurement officer can forward internally.

AI answers are now part of that research. AI summaries in Google, ChatGPT, Copilot and Perplexity now describe suppliers and compare options before anyone clicks. No one can promise what they will say about a company. Identical facts on your site, profile and directory listings, direct answers to the questions buyers ask and structured data that mirrors the page make an accurate summary more likely. My AI search optimization work covers how I check and improve this.

Results are judged by inquiries and revenue. Each organic call, chat and form is labeled with its landing page and area and stored in your CRM, which shows where paying customers come from. Rankings and traffic are never promised. Companies reorganizing their systems at the same time can read the Nigeria digital transformation page, and the Nigeria overview lists everything else I offer there.

FAQ

Questions About SEO Consultant Nigeria

Sometimes. Most commercial and B2B searches in Nigeria are in English, so English pages remain the core. Pidgin can work well for consumer-facing FAQs, explainers or campaign landing pages where your audience uses it naturally. I look at demand and audience first, and any Pidgin text is drafted or reviewed by fluent speakers on your side or at a partner.

Common causes are oversized images, heavy themes and plugins, video backgrounds, too many tracking scripts and hosting far from your visitors without caching. On mobile data and variable networks these add up quickly. I measure performance on realistic phones and connections, then give your developer prioritized fixes with a way to confirm each one.

Yes. Each qualifying branch gets its own Business Profile with an accurate pin and landmark details, a location page with real local information and consistent listings elsewhere. Reporting is split by branch, so managers can see calls, WhatsApp clicks and direction requests from local search. The work is remote, with branch staff supplying details and photos.

If your business sells to them, yes. Real estate, education, travel, logistics and family services often attract searches from the diaspora. Those visitors need pages that address their questions, payment options and contact routes, plus hreflang where versions differ. I check whether that demand exists for your services before recommending separate content.

They combine Search Console visibility, organic landing page results for visitors who accepted tracking, and leads logged in your CRM by source, page and location, including calls and WhatsApp. Reports explain what changed, why it likely changed and what happens next. They are short and built for decisions. I do not promise rankings, traffic or timelines.
