How should a French company configure Zoho People?
A French company should configure Zoho People around its own working time arrangements: paid leave acquired over a reference period, RTT days, managers on a forfait jours and staff counted in hours, plus regional holiday differences. A Zoho People consultant also prepares the CSE consultation, keeps HR documents available in French and hands absence data to the payroll provider. I do this remotely as an independent consultant.

French HR teams manage several layers of time at once: paid leave acquired over a reference period, RTT days that depend on the working time agreement, managers on a forfait jours counted in days rather than hours, and part-time contracts. A tool that treats all of this as one leave balance creates disputes within months.
I start from your collective agreement, company agreements and employment contracts, as interpreted by your HR lead and employment lawyer, and translate them into leave types, accrual rules and attendance settings in Zoho People. Where a rule does not fit the product cleanly, I say so before it reaches employees, and we agree whether HR handles it manually or through a custom formula.
All sessions are remote; the engagement runs in English. French policy wording, notices and self-service texts are drafted by native speakers in HR or by a local partner, who also give the final approval of every text. I take no commission from Zoho and resell no licenses.
French HR configuration is mostly a matter of translating agreements into rules. These services cover the main pieces.
Paid leave acquisition, the reference period, split leave and carry-over as your agreements define them, written as a rule table your employment lawyer reviews before any balance appears in Zoho People.
RTT entitlements linked to the working time agreement, and day-count tracking for managers on a forfait jours, including the rest and workload monitoring your agreement may require.
A clear description of the modules, data, reports and access rights in Zoho People, prepared for the information and consultation of the comité social et économique where one exists.
Self-service screens, leave policies, onboarding forms and notices available in French, written or reviewed by native speakers, with English kept for international managers where that helps.
Absences, overtime and contract changes sent each month to the payroll software or provider that prepares payslips and social declarations, closing on a fixed day each month and checked against the payroll result.
Arrival checklists for HR, IT and managers, collection of contracts and certificates, and access rules for the digital personnel file agreed with your data protection contact.
Agreements, contracts and current practice
Rules tested on real employees
CSE informed, managers trained
French paid leave is acquired over a reference period and taken within a leave period, often with rules about a main summer block and about split leave that can generate extra days. On top of that, RTT days arise where a working time agreement sets weekly hours above the legal duration and compensates with rest days. Collective agreements add their own extras, such as seniority days or leave for family events.
Zoho People can model accrual, entitlement and carry-over, but each French rule has to be expressed in its terms. My method:
Court rulings and legislative changes have affected how leave accrues during sickness, so the rule set needs confirmation from your employment lawyer rather than from a template. I build what they confirm and document it for the HR team that maintains it.
French companies frequently run two time regimes side by side. Employees under a weekly hours arrangement need attendance, overtime and possibly compensatory rest tracking. Managers and some professionals on a forfait jours agreement are counted in days worked per year, and employers are generally expected to monitor their workload and rest rather than their hours.
In Zoho People this becomes two configurations:
Your employment lawyer confirms what the forfait agreement requires you to monitor and keep. I configure the forms and reports so the evidence exists, can be produced when needed and is visible only to HR and the employee's manager. Location-based check-in on mobile stays off unless there is a documented reason and employees have been told.
In French companies with a comité social et économique, introducing new technologies and tools that can monitor employee activity is generally a subject for information and consultation, and employees must be told what data is collected about them. An HR system with attendance, timesheets and appraisals sits squarely in that territory. Your employment lawyer sets the procedure; I provide the content.
The pack covers:
I write the pack in English for HR to adapt into French, and configure Zoho People to match it, so the system the CSE reviewed is the system employees use. The same material feeds the GDPR record of processing and the employee information notice. Hosting region and the broader Zoho landscape for French entities are covered in my France Zoho overview. If the CSE later asks for a change, the pack shows exactly which setting implements each commitment.
French payroll, with its contributions, collective agreement rules and monthly social declaration, is specialist work. It belongs with payroll software run by your team, a payroll provider or your expert-comptable. Zoho does sell a payroll product, Zoho Payroll, but its country coverage is limited, so ask Zoho directly whether a French edition exists; unless it does, I design Zoho People as the HR source and nothing more.
The monthly handoff is agreed in detail:
The payroll journal then reaches the ledger, either in Zoho Books or with the accountant; see Zoho Books for France. Keeping this boundary clean also stops an HR tool from being mistaken for a payroll engine during an inspection, and it lets you change payroll provider later without rebuilding HR.
French law generally expects documents that employees need for their work, along with internal rules, to be available in French. In Zoho People that covers self-service screens, leave policies, onboarding forms and notices. The interface offers French, but your own texts must come from native French speakers in HR or from a local partner; I supply the structure and the English source, and confirm with counsel which documents are in scope.
Zoho People is a reasonable choice for French service companies, sales subsidiaries and scale-ups. I suggest another route when:
For timesheets that bill clients, see Zoho Projects in France. The product overview sits on Zoho People, and wider platform decisions on ERP consulting for French companies and the France hub.

Yes, with design work. RTT days can be set up as a leave type tied to your working time agreement, and staff on a forfait jours can declare days worked against an annual count. Your employment lawyer confirms the rules and what must be monitored; I configure and test them with real employee scenarios before go-live.
Where a CSE exists, introducing tools that can track employee activity is generally a matter for information and consultation, and your employment lawyer confirms the procedure. I prepare the factual pack describing modules, data, access and retention, and configure the system to match exactly what is presented to the committee.
Do not assume it. Zoho Payroll covers a limited list of countries, and you should get Zoho's answer on France in writing. Typically, Zoho People sends absence and contract data to the payroll software or provider that prepares payslips and social declarations, through a monthly export tested against a real payroll run.
The engagement runs in English. I prepare the policy structure, configuration notes and English drafts; native French speakers in your HR team or a local partner write the French texts employees see, which also helps meet the expectation that workplace documents are available in French.
