How should an Italian services or installation firm use Odoo Projects?
An Italian engineering firm, machine installer or software house can use Odoo Projects to plan work, capture timesheets and bill by milestone, fixed fee or hours, then pass invoices to Odoo Accounting for the electronic invoice flow. I design the billing rules, timesheet routine and field service steps, check edition coverage and Italian invoicing details with your advisor, and work remotely and independently.

Italian services businesses sell work in many shapes: a design fee split by project stage, an installation and commissioning job abroad, an annual maintenance contract, a software project billed by the day. Each shape needs a different billing rule, and each invoice must still leave the company as a valid electronic invoice.
I design Odoo Projects so that the contract, the work recorded and the invoice line up. Sessions run remotely with the project managers, the people who fill in timesheets and administration, and the engagement runs in English with Italian client documents reviewed by your own staff.
These items cover delivery and billing inside Odoo, from the signed order to the invoice that reaches the exchange system.
For each contract type I define whether Odoo bills a fixed amount, a milestone, delivered hours or expenses, and how the sales order line drives that behavior automatically.
A simple daily or weekly timesheet habit with validation by the project manager, so hours are complete before billing and before payroll or cost reports use them.
Projects for delivering, installing and commissioning machines at customer sites in Italy or abroad, with travel expenses, spare parts used and acceptance recorded per job.
Service tasks for breakdowns and planned visits, with technician reports and materials used, checking first that the field service application is included in your edition.
Maintenance and support agreements billed periodically, through subscriptions where your edition offers them, with renewal dates and service levels visible to sales, technicians and administration.
Project invoices tested through Odoo Accounting with your Italian localization, including withholding on professional fees and public body customers where your advisor says they apply.

The first live invoicing run
In Odoo, the way a project is invoiced starts on the sales order. A service product can be set to invoice on order, on milestones reached, or on hours and expenses actually delivered. Getting this right per contract type is the core of a working setup, because changing it after invoices exist is painful.
For Italian firms I map contract types such as:
Each type becomes a service product, a project template and a billing rule. The result is that a salesperson who sells the right product creates a project that already knows how it will be invoiced. The general mechanics are on my Odoo Projects page; this page covers how they meet Italian practice.
For Italian machinery and equipment exporters, the project often starts after the machine leaves the plant. Technicians travel to install it, train the customer's operators and sign an acceptance report. Later, the same machine needs spare parts, remote support and planned maintenance visits. Odoo can link these steps, but the design needs to follow the machine rather than the invoice.
The flow I design connects:
Field service, subscriptions and some planning features may require Enterprise, and their scope changes between versions. Whatever you need from them goes on a list that Odoo or the partner answers in writing for your edition and hosting. If production of the machine itself also runs in Odoo, the design connects to Odoo Manufacturing in Italy, so the project can see the build status.
Timesheets are where project systems most often fail, because people see them as administration rather than as the basis of their own invoices. In Odoo, validated timesheets drive hourly billing, feed project cost and show whether a fixed-price job is making money. If they are late or incomplete, every one of those numbers is wrong.
I design the routine with the people who will fill it in:
Some Italian firms also need timesheets to support research and development tax credits or funded projects. Odoo can record the hours, but what counts as eligible evidence, and how it must be documented, is for your advisor to decide. I make sure the data can be exported in the form they ask for.
Hours recorded for projects are not automatically a substitute for any legally required working time records; your labor advisor confirms how the two relate.
Every project invoice in Italy must leave as an electronic invoice through the Sistema di Interscambio. In Odoo that happens in Accounting, through the Italian fiscal localization or the modules your partner installs. Projects do not change the rules, but they add cases that are easy to miss in testing.
Cases I test with administration and your commercialista:
Your advisor confirms the treatment of each case; I confirm Odoo produces the right file and posts the right entries. Ledger treatment is explained on Odoo Accounting in Italy. Because Odoo Online restricts additional modules, the hosting choice can matter if your Italian invoicing relies on community modules, so I check that early.
The point of putting projects, timesheets, purchases and invoices in one database is a profitability view per job that management believes. Odoo builds it from analytic accounts: revenue invoiced, hours valued at cost, purchases and expenses linked to the project. I define which costs belong to a project and test the report against a handful of finished jobs before relying on it.
Odoo Projects is not always the right tool for an Italian firm. I would raise it early when:
In those cases I help you choose the right combination through ERP for project costing or a wider review on the ERP consultant in Italy page. My advice carries no vendor commission and no license resale. Work is remote, sessions are arranged around Italian office hours, and on-site days happen only by arrangement.
Tell me about your business and current systems. I’ll suggest the most sensible first step.

Yes. The billing rule is set per service product on the sales order, so one contract can invoice by milestone while another invoices validated timesheets. I map your contract types to products and project templates and test real invoices before go-live.
Project invoices are created in Odoo Accounting and follow the same electronic invoice flow as other sales invoices, through the Italian localization or partner modules. I test project-specific cases such as advances, withholding and public body customers with your commercialista before you rely on them.
Field Service has been an Enterprise application, and subscriptions and some planning tools may be too, but packaging changes between versions. Your service team's must-have features go to the partner, whose written answer tells you what your edition and hosting cover.
Odoo can record hours by project and task and export them. Whether those records meet the evidence requirements for a tax credit or funded project is for your advisor to decide. I make sure the data is complete and can be exported in the layout they request.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
