Odoo Projects in Egypt

Every project invoice has to clear two checks

What does an Odoo Projects consultant do for an Egyptian firm?

For an Egyptian engineering consultancy, IT services exporter or maintenance contractor, an Odoo Projects consultant designs how contracts become projects, timesheets and invoices: fixed, milestone and hourly billing, services sold abroad in dollars with costs in pounds, field maintenance visits, and invoices that must pass the Tax Authority's electronic route. Tax scope is confirmed with your advisor. The work is remote and vendor-independent.

Last reviewed by Vikas Saroj

In an Egyptian service business, a project invoice has to satisfy the client and the Tax Authority's electronic system. If the project was sold one way, delivered another and invoiced from a spreadsheet, both checks become harder. Unbilled hours stay invisible, and a service invoice built by hand is more likely to be rejected.

As an independent Odoo consultant working remotely, I design how projects are sold, delivered and invoiced in Odoo, with your delivery and finance leads. I write the specification your implementer builds against and test it with your own contracts before the team relies on it.

What I Do

Odoo Projects work for Egyptian service firms

These services cover the project, billing and tax handoff decisions Egyptian service firms need to settle in Odoo.

Billing Rules

Service products for fixed fees, milestones, prepaid hours and time and materials, so each confirmed contract creates the right project and invoices follow the rule it was sold under.

Milestone Evidence

Milestones tied to client acceptance, such as approved drawings, signed handover reports or accepted software releases, with that evidence attached in Odoo before finance raises the invoice.

Export Service Billing

Contracts with clients abroad priced in dollars or euros, with costs in pounds, set up so project margin is readable and invoices carry the treatment your advisor confirms.

Maintenance Operations

Elevator, HVAC, generator or equipment maintenance contracts run as recurring tasks or field service visits, with checklists, spare parts and client sign-off captured on site.

Timesheet Policy

Rules for what engineers and developers log, when, and who approves, agreed with delivery leads and finance so time and materials invoices and project costs can be trusted.

Invoice Handoff

Service invoices passing into Odoo Accounting with item codes, customer data and taxes complete, so they are ready for the electronic invoice route your implementer delivers.

Engineering consultancies and IT firms: choosing the billing model

Egyptian engineering and architecture consultancies, IT and software firms, and specialist contractors sell work in different ways, sometimes within the same contract. A design consultancy may charge a fixed fee per stage, plus hourly rates for site supervision and variations. A software company may sell a fixed implementation, then a monthly support retainer and extra hours on request.

In Odoo, the billing model sits mainly on the service product. I set up a small catalog with your delivery and finance leads:

  • Fixed fee products invoiced on ordered quantity, for defined deliverables.
  • Milestone products invoiced when a milestone is marked reached, for staged design work.
  • Time and materials products invoiced on approved timesheets, for supervision and change requests.
  • Prepaid hours products for support blocks consumed by timesheets.

The product setting also controls what confirming the order generates, whether a fresh project built from a template or simply a task inside a running one. Templates with standard stages, such as concept, schematic, detailed design and tender, save setup time and keep reporting consistent. I test each product with a real contract before the catalog is opened to sales. The global Odoo Projects page explains these models in more detail.

Services sold abroad: dollars in, pounds out

Egypt has a growing base of firms exporting services, from software development and engineering design to call centers and back-office work for clients in the Gulf, Europe and North America. Revenue arrives in dollars or euros while salaries, rent and most costs are in pounds. When the exchange rate moves, project margins can look very different from one month to the next.

Odoo can hold sales orders and invoices in the client's currency, with the conversion handled in accounting. Points to agree with finance before configuration:

  • Contract currency on the sales order, with price lists per currency where you sell in several.
  • Rate source for converting invoices, agreed with your accountant.
  • Margin reporting in a consistent currency, so management can separate delivery performance from currency effects.
  • Tax treatment of exported services on the invoice, which your tax advisor confirms rather than the implementer assuming.

Timesheet costs are in pounds, so employee cost rates must be updated when salaries change. I test the margin view on a contract spanning several invoice dates to confirm it reads correctly. Revaluation and exchange differences belong to Odoo Accounting in Egypt.

Maintenance contractors and field visits

Egyptian maintenance firms service elevators, air conditioning, generators, fire systems and industrial equipment for residential compounds, commercial buildings and factories. Their work is a mix of planned visits under annual contracts and call-outs for breakdowns, often with spare parts.

Odoo offers two routes. Recurring tasks in Projects handle planned visits on a schedule. Field Service, an Enterprise app, adds technician scheduling, mobile worksheets, parts consumption and client signature on site. Which of these your edition and release include is something I get confirmed in writing before the design counts on it.

The design I agree with your operations lead:

  • Contract structure per client and site, with the equipment covered listed against it.
  • Planned visit schedule generated automatically, with checklists per equipment type.
  • Call-outs logged as separate tasks, billable or covered depending on the contract.
  • Spare parts drawn from a van or store location, invoiced or covered as the contract says.
  • Evidence such as photos and signed worksheets attached to each visit.

Arabic worksheet labels and client reports are drafted or reviewed by native-speaking colleagues of yours. The field service ERP page covers the requirements in general.

Service invoices and the electronic invoice route

Every service invoice raised from an Odoo project for a business client in Egypt is expected to go through the Tax Authority's electronic invoice system. Which version and edition of Odoo supports that, through which component, and who maintains it should be confirmed with Odoo or your implementer, and the scope for your company with your tax advisor.

Projects add some specific risks to that route:

  • Service item codes. Each service product needs the right code for tax documents, set once on the product rather than typed on invoices.
  • Milestone and down payment invoices. Advance invoices and their later deduction must be documented in a way the electronic system accepts. I test this with your implementer.
  • Credit notes for disputed hours or cancelled milestones, linked to the original invoice.
  • Foreign clients whose details are recorded according to the rules your advisor confirms for export invoices.

Rejected invoices hold up project collections, so I make sure project managers can see when an invoice for their project has been rejected, not only finance. The finance-side queue is covered on the Odoo Accounting in Egypt page.

Where Odoo Projects falls short for Egyptian contractors

Odoo Projects suits consultancies, IT firms, agencies and maintenance contractors whose contracts are billed by fee, milestone, hours or subscription. It is a weaker fit for Egyptian construction and fit-out contractors working on large projects with bills of quantities, monthly progress valuations, retention, material on site and subcontractor certification. For that kind of contract, look at extensions, bespoke work or software built for contractors, and settle the question before any build starts.

Other limits to plan for:

  • Edition. Scheduling views, approval of hours and on-site service tools sit in Enterprise, so a Community rollout leaves planners with fewer tools.
  • Staffing engineers across dozens of parallel jobs is easier in a specialist services automation product.
  • Revenue recognition for complex long contracts may need accountant-led entries outside the project flow.
  • Arabic client reports need template work, with the Arabic reviewed by native-speaking staff.

With no license sales or referral income at stake, I can recommend another tool if it fits your contracts better. The Odoo in Egypt page covers the wider platform, the Zoho Projects in Egypt page an alternative for lighter needs, and my ERP consultant Egypt page the selection process.

FAQ

Questions About Odoo Projects Consultant Egypt

Yes. Each sales order line uses a service product with its own billing rule, so a fixed design fee, milestone stages and hourly supervision can sit on one contract. Each line invoices according to its rule. I test the combined contract before the catalog goes live.

Invoices are issued in the contract currency and converted in accounting, while timesheet costs use pound cost rates. The project profitability view then needs a consistent reporting currency. I set the rate source with your accountant and test a contract across several invoice dates.

That is the expectation, using whichever connection your version, edition and implementer provide. Have the implementer demonstrate it, and let your tax advisor confirm what applies to you. I make sure service products, customer data and credit notes are ready for it and test them.

For small fit-out jobs billed by milestone, yes. For large contracts with bills of quantities, progress valuations and retention, Odoo needs add-ons or customization, or a construction-focused system may fit better. I review your contract types before recommending a route.
