How does an independent Business Central consultant help in Italy?
In Italy, an independent Business Central consultant checks what the Italian version, together with partner apps, covers for VAT registers, electronic invoices and collections, designs posting groups and dimensions with finance, and reviews every line of the partner's statement of work before you sign. With no Microsoft partner agreement and no license income, I give remote advice that answers to the client alone.

Business Central projects in Italy rarely fail on the big features. They fail on details nobody wrote down: a VAT case missing from the posting setup, a collection method the bank cannot read, an app the partner assumed you would license separately.
I work on those details with your finance team before and during the build. That means the Italian localization, the structure of posting groups and dimensions, payment files and, above all, the partner's statement of work, which decides what you will actually receive.
My work concentrates on setup decisions that are expensive to change once transactions are posted.
A list of every Italian requirement marked as standard in the Italian version, delivered by a partner app, handled by an intermediary or left to a manual step, each with a named owner.
VAT business and product posting groups built from your advisor's case list, so domestic, EU, export, exempt and reverse charge scenarios post correctly without users picking codes by hand.
Global and shortcut dimensions for business line, agent, market or cost center, agreed with controlling, so management reporting and group mapping come from the same postings.
Customer bills and Ri.Ba. presentation, SEPA transfers and direct debits mapped to your bank's file layouts, tested with sample files before the first live run.
I check each commitment in the partner's statement of work against what you specified, flag assumptions about apps, migration and training, and propose wording that makes each deliverable testable.
Test scripts for Italian invoicing, VAT registers and settlement, collections and period close, run by your own users, with each defect logged, assigned and tracked to resolution before sign-off.
Italian needs as testable lines

Microsoft publishes Business Central with an Italian localization, which has included features such as VAT registers, periodic settlement support, customer and vendor bills and electronic invoice export. That is a solid base, but it is not everything an Italian entity needs, and the split between standard features, partner apps and outside services varies by version and by partner.
So I build a coverage inventory with three columns for every requirement your finance team and commercialista provide:
The inventory becomes an annex to the statement of work, so nothing falls between partner, app publisher and intermediary. I treat it as provisional until the partner demonstrates each line on your version, because features described for an older release may not behave the same today. The general product view sits on my Business Central page.
Business Central decides where every amount posts through combinations of general and VAT posting groups. For an Italian entity those combinations have to express a long list of cases your advisor will name: standard rates, exempt and non-taxable operations with their reason codes, reverse charge, EU and export sales, split payment for public bodies, and any limits on deductibility. If the matrix is improvised, users end up choosing codes manually and the VAT registers stop matching the ledger.
I design the matrix on paper first, with your commercialista reviewing each row, then have the partner configure it and test every combination with a posted document.
Dimensions need the same discipline. Sales directors usually want margin by agent, market, product line and channel, while a parent group may want cost centers and intercompany partners. I agree with controlling:
The solution design service shows the documentation format I hand to the partner.
Cash moves through files in Italian finance. Customer receipts by Ri.Ba. are prepared as bills, grouped into presentations and sent to the bank; unpaid ones come back and must reopen the customer balance. Supplier payments go out as SEPA credit transfers, often in the CBI layouts used for Italian corporate banking, and some customers pay by SEPA direct debit.
The Italian version of Business Central has offered functionality for customer and vendor bills, but the exact layouts your bank expects, and whether they come from standard features or a partner app, must be checked. My test plan covers:
Each bank is tested separately, because layouts and conventions differ. Where a step stays manual, it is written into the close checklist with an owner.
Business Central licenses and implementation come from a firm in Microsoft's partner network. I am outside that network: I hold no partner status, sell no licenses and take no introduction fees. That lets me read the statement of work purely from your side, and on Italian projects the effort pays back quickly.
The points I look for:
I return a marked-up document with questions and suggested wording. You negotiate; I make sure you know what you are negotiating about. My vendor proposal review page describes the method, and Dynamics 365 in Italy covers the broader platform choice.
Business Central suits Italian companies with real finance complexity: several entities, group reporting, structured approvals or a Microsoft-based parent. It is less convincing elsewhere:
When Business Central does fit, the work described above keeps it honest: a coverage inventory, a posting matrix the advisor has approved, bank files tested and a statement of work you understand. I run that remotely, with live sessions in the Italian morning and written notes afterward. For context on my wider work see the Italy hub and the ERP consultant in Italy page.

Not sure which ERP you need?
Share your business requirements with me and I will help you understand the right process, architecture and platform before implementation.
Microsoft has published an Italian version of Business Central with local accounting and VAT features. Some Italian needs, such as transmission to the exchange system or digital preservation, may still come from partner apps or outside services. I confirm the split for your version in a sandbox and record it in the statement of work.
Yes. I compare it with your requirements, flag assumptions about apps, migration, training and acceptance, and return questions with suggested wording. I do not negotiate commercial terms for you, but you will know exactly which deliverables are included and how each one will be tested.
Your commercialista or tax advisor decides how each case is treated. I turn their case list into a posting group matrix, have the partner configure it, and test every combination with posted documents so the VAT registers and settlement agree with the ledger.
No. There is no agreement of any kind between Microsoft and me, and I have nothing to resell. You buy licenses and implementation from your chosen partner; my role is to represent your interests in requirements, contract scope and acceptance testing.
Every business is different. Share where you are today and what you want to fix, and I’ll tell you honestly whether and how I can help.
